WAL to identify bias in a text. We had to highlight the words that showed Koro Apirana being biased. He would be mean to Kahu because he wanted a boy to be the chief but Kahu was next in line and she is a girl.
I thought this activity was tricky to find where he was being biased.
The easiest part was the ones where it said he was grumpy with her. The hardest part was where it didn’t say it very clearly.
Yesterday we went to the Buddhist Temple for a trip. To learn about our values and about giving and sharing. The whole of year 6s and the whole of year 5s and we went on a bus there and some parents came on the trip to to help with the supervision. and when we got there some monks were waiting with umbrellas so we did not get wet. When we were there they talked about 3g and 4g ,3g means good deeds, good thoughts, say good words. 4g means give others joy, give others hope, give others confidence, and give others convenience. After we did we had some brownies and some water and then we watched a video of sharing and giving. After the police came to talk about 3g and 4g they choose some people to come up and dress in a police uniform and they did a role-play of them playing. Then one person playing on his own because he said that he was cool and he could play on his own. But then the other police were playing passes and he asked to join because he was seeing how much fun they had together as a group so he asked and they said yes and that meant you should always let other people play with you. After we went back on the bus and went back to school it was rainy just like it was when we were going there. what i liked most about it was the brownies
I found this easy to do because it was easy to think of the story that we read and watched bridge to terabithia it was cool activity. What we had to do was put the chapters in the right order and then you had to write a sentence or more about the best part in the chapter then write in then we had to upload it to our blog.
WAL to make connections between the real world and a text.
Room 20 has been reading the book, called Bridge to ¨Terabithia¨
In the story, it was raining really hard and the creek was swollen and flooded. Yesterday it was pouring here as well. So we decided to do some authentic learning. We made some raincoats from plastic bags and walked down to see the creek behind our school. We could see the water flowing fast and the plants that had been flattened.
I thought that I freezing and cold but a cool thing to look at because it gave us a chance to see what it might look like in the book as well.
The best thing that I liked about bike skills was going up and down ramps.
The thing that I found challenging is the gears on the bike because I have never used gears before.
The different thing about bike skills is that we did not just have to ride around on grass and that we
could go on ramps. The next thing I want to learn is how to do use gears more often because it was challenging changing gears to which one would suit me.
This is my camp MERC certificate. I think that camp MERC was the best year 6 trip we are ever going to do and my favorite activity was Stack'em because I got 13 crates which was the most crates you could get.
I found this work easy and tricky because with this work I had to really take my time to find what is the same and what are the keywords in the title and in the blurb I think this is going to be a great book. I am looking forward to doing lots more work with this book so I can understand the book better.
This last 4 weeks have jam-packed we have done Badges, Youth town, Choir and Camp MERC. Let me tell you about youth town. In youth town we were playing lots of sports like touch rugby soccer and even played with a Frisbee. And that is just youth town we have done choir. Now choir was just a practice so we were just singing and our choir teacher was Mrs D and she was just seeing who should be in and who just is really close but she could not pick you. I could not wait to tell you but I got my first badge and that was a P.E monitor and a P.E monitor is like a person who takes out the stuff that we need for playing games and for sports and there were lots of other badges handed out like head boy and head girl, Councillor and other jobs round the school. Then we also did some tests the tests that we did was maths, spelling and we will do reading and writing tests next week but i think I did could on maths and spelling.
I was learning to write about the 5 senses. I found this work tricky because I had some trouble doing the brainstorm. I got stuck on making up the sentences in my book but it was easy doing the computer part.
Next time I want to get better words for work so it makes it more interesting.
Reflection: I found this work easy because we were working in a group of 3 and what we had to do was write down all the words that me and our group did not know. I think we did well as a team because we did not really work that much together in other work so we knew each other more.
I found this work easy because... Me and my class did a big brainstorm of what I saw, what I could hear, and I could feel. And that was a big boost to help me do my story quick and re-read it and check with a buddy.
I was learning to write a kenning poem I found this tricky because I had to make sure it made sense and fit the criteria. I used the thesaurus To help me to make my words interesting and cool. The criteria was to make a three word sentence with the starting with A or An.
This work was pretty easy because I already knew groups of 5 and even and odd numbers. One thing that I learnt was square numbers. What I noticed was a square number 1x1 2x2 4x4 5x5 and more I think this activity was good.
These last 2 weeks have gone fast as. We have done a powhiri. Mrs Graham told us we were going to to a powhiri. So lots of us did not really know the haka powhiri so on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we practiced it. On Tuesday thats when we were doing it for some student teachers. This year is very different then any other year because we have ticks. Let me tell you what ticks are. So if you are caught using our school values in the class room you get a tick and when you get ten ticks then you get a reward. You can also get tokens which is different then house points. It is similar. If the teacher sees you doing the right thing then instead of giving house points you get 1 token. When you get a token you put it into the house points box.
I am Excited for this year to be in a All Boys class, it is going to be a fun year because we are hopefully going to do lots of sports.
My Goal for this year is to make it into the athletics team for this year.
I really want to make it into the athletics team for Sprints or High Jump or Long Jump.
In Year 6, I am looking forward to camp this year and getting involved in lots of activities around the school.
I am Excited about going to camp because it is really fun to do, And I want to get involved in lots of stuff because then you can get some more awards for the end of the Year, And try to get on The Honers board but I probably will not because it is hard to.
In Year 6, I want to get better at sports and Ict computer stuff.
I want to get better At Ict so I can help other people. When they need it,And I also want to get better at all the sports that we are going to do.
